Blame it on Vancouver
You stepped out looking like that?
How to Tie a Bow-Tie
‘Tis the season. Holiday parties, calorie intake is increased tenfold, and so is alcohol intake. So, while December might be miserable in terms of weather, why not get out of that S.A.D funk and make sure you are the best dressed gent in the room. It doesn’t take a lot, in all honesty. And, with Vancouverites being the casual bunch that they are, there is one surefire way to elevate your look. A bow-tie. And no, you can’t get a clip-on. Make sure you get the proper tie that you actually have to tie yourself. Now, here lies the problem. Most men, including myself were apprehensive about getting a bow-tie because of the difficulty of actually getting it to look like a bow. I spent hours on youtube searching in vain for the best videos. There were 80 year old gentlemen from the south tying bow-ties on oatmeal cans, models from Details magazine telling me how to do it, and Playboy playmates. But all in all, I couldn’t do it. That is until I stumbled upon this video, which is fantastic and this young girl tells you how to do it in an easy to follow manner. So, if you want to step up your game with a whimsical touch this holiday season, wear a bow-tie. You can easily get them from The Bay, Club Monaco, Winners (downtown location), Brooks Brothers and many more locations.
And what do you wear your bow-tie with? There are a multitude of options, however, I recommend wearing it with a shawl cardigan and a plaid shirt or chambray shirt; or you can go the full route of a suit, white shirt, and black slim bow-tie.
