Blame it on Vancouver

You stepped out looking like that?

Spring Preview

The official start of a new season is again upon us. Even before Winter officially hits (which is supposed to be the worst in the last fifty-five years according to meteorologists) in the Pacific Northwest, J-Crew has given fashion minded individuals a sneak peek into what is going to be in stores in about two-months. Like in the previous post, you aren’t supposed to copy each and every look exactly. It’s supposed to serve as inspiration. Like the dark wash slim-straight jeans that look like they were pulled out of the dryer while still wet and rolled into a ball. And if you can’t get into the good ol’ USA, head straight into your local Banana Republic and look at their Vintage Straight fit. They’re nearly exactly the same, and right now they have a black pair and a light gray. But they have the exact same effect. And I love the layering pieces. The white jeans. The sturdy wing-tips. If you have muscular legs, you can pull off wingtips with shorts. I tried it once, and looked like a homeless hobo who found a pair of shorts and wingtips in the trash and decided to put them together. So, take these photos as inspiration for your spring wardrobe – and remember to always try something once that is out of your comfort zone. Your mirror and those around you might thank you.

Copy this Look

Wow. This guy’s style is just spot on lately. Listen, I’m not telling you to go and get a sharkskin suit that’s exactly like this. Or even to wear your trousers this short, without a break. But look at this silhouette. Look how it fits him perfectly. And the double breasted jacket is so modern and quintessential for this season. If you are slim, trim and in shape – go ahead and be the best dressed man in the room. Just make sure it is a modern, tailored fit.

Cords R’ Us

Well, well, well. Isn’t this post late? Yes, procrastination can get the best of us. Myself included. So to move up the autumn list towards what really is necessary in your wardrobe, I present to you one of the most versatile pieces. Cords. Or more formally, Corduroy.

So do yourself a favour and buy a pair. Two of my favourite places have Cords at a great price. Club Monaco, my perennial go-to store, has muted colors – light gray, dark gray, navy blue and black for a decent price of 69 dollars. Levi’s, which has garnered a certain reputation as the comeback kid, is a little more adventurous in the color department and has browns, navy, and my personal favourite, a dark plum/maroon color which will look daring yet understated at holiday parties. All for a great price of 79 dollars. And the fit is perfect, slim-straight. Fits you snugly in all the right places without making you look like a hipster on Main and 14th at JJ Bean.
